Frau Schach, a women's chess group, meets every three weeks at Café Schopenhauer in Währing; taking part is free and needs no registration. Café Spezial in Mariahilf sets up its chess tables on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons for whoever comes in.
Among the clubs, Schachklub Austria Wien invites beginners to its Thursday evening at Café Frey, where free games, blitz and training share the room. The Chess Unlimited calendar lists free Saturday training at the 1. Simmeringer Schachklub besides its Tuesday evening, and Schachverein Mödling, just south of the city, combines a training for children from five with an adults' club night on Mondays in the Mautwirtshaus.
