Rapid tournaments in and around Vienna 7

Schnellschach, the German word for rapid chess, gives each player a quarter of an hour or so for the game, short enough to fit a whole tournament into one day. The Wiener Rapidlandesmeisterschaft, the city's rapid championship, is played at the end of November, and the ASVOE sports association holds blitz and rapid state championships for Vienna in December.

The TU Wien chess festival combines blitz and rapid over two days in spring, and the club tschaturanga runs Fast & Furios, a series of quick tournaments. In Bad Vöslau, south of the city, rapid has a firm place: Rapid Rabbit in spring, Kabane 21 Schnellschach in September and the Blitzgneisser Trophy in December, which mixes rapid with blitz.
